A DISCORD GAME / RUN BY PEOPLE

WAR
ROOM.

You run part of a fictional government or institution. Other people run the rest. Sometimes this goes well.

The first campaign was about a world where acidic cloud and poor enviorment had brought the world's trade and transportation hub to the sky.

WAR ROOM, IN PRACTICE

No list of
allowed moves.

In CITS, you helped run a country. In TBUTS, you'll help run an underwater city. There isn't really a menu of actions to pick from. You essentially have to talk to the other departments, make a plan on what you need, what you want to achieve etc etc base on your objective, and tell Control what you want to do.

Control is the human GM team. We work out what could actually happen, with the people, machinery, time and information available. Everything has its own steps that needs to be done to be complete. And a sensible plan doesn't (shouldn't) mysteriously fail just because we Control want extra spice to the game.

How a turn works

  1. 01
    Get your briefing

Control tells your department what it knows. Other departments might have different information.

  2. 02
    Talk to people

Ask questions, argue about plans, and work out who has the resources you need.

  3. 03
    Send your orders

Write down what you want done. There is no menu of permitted moves.

  4. 04
    See what happened

The human GM team processes the orders and publishes the results. Then the next turn starts.

THIS ACTUALLY HAPPENED IN CITS

Panoptes started as a civilian competition, became a military reconnaissance project, and eventually caused a diplomatic incident when Eagle flew it over other countries.

THE
BASEMENT
UNDER THE SEA

About 46,000 people live deep under the ocean. Somebody has to keep the city running.

This time, the players are responsible for different parts of the same city. You can still start projects of your own. Just remember that the department next door might need the same engineers.

CASTLES
IN THE SKY

It was meant to be about flying warships.

Instead, the players spent a surprising amount of time trying to run functioning governments. Eagle and Hawk prepared for a war they never fought. Schwalbenheim had a coup. F.I.S.H. got on with business.

“Its a still developing roleplay with a lot of moving parts and interesting rivalries.”

Actual end-of-game feedback, shared with permission. The campaign wasn't without its problems either... We will do our best to improve as we host more War Room games.
